On the east of Baita Mountain, Lanzhou, a Memorial Pavilion quietly stands on the mountain top, telling a story from 86 years ago.
On February 20 and 23, 1939, the Chinese Air Force and the Soviet Volunteer Aviation Group fought together, writing a glorious chapter in China's history of aerial fight against Japanese aggression. In this battle, 55 brave souls, including 45 Chinese and 10 Soviet soldiers gave their lives for peace.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Lanzhou, as a key transportation hub in northwest China and a transfer point for Soviet aid supplies, became a prime target for Japanese air raids. The Soviet soldiers came afar to fight for peace on an unfamiliar Eastern battlefield.
Every name engraved on the monument was once a vibrant life, a hero who fought for peace.
86 years later, the Russian friends come all the way to pay deep respect to the heroes resting here.
Time flows, days remain peaceful. Let’s remember the history and cherish the peace. History forever endures!(兰州日报社全媒体记者 汪霺温 纪超文/视频)
